After our return last summer, Nick and I sat down to discuss our plans for our return to Cianciana.
“It’s just too expensive to go back every year!”
Nick is, of course, correct. It is bloody expensive to fly to Sicily at peak season. For the two of us, we are looking at close to $4000. This, of course, did not stop me from doing the ‘sad face’. However, I resigned myself to a return in 2015.
Over the holidays, however, we had lots of visits with friends and family that included much discussion and the showing of pictures of our Sicilian home. On Boxing Day, just after we dropped the last of our guests at the airport, we decided to go see a movie (something we don’t often do). The Silver City theatres sit next to the mall that just happens to house our travel agent.
“Maybe we should drop by the travel agent and just ask her to keep an eye out for cheap tickets to Europe.” Nick casually mentioned.
“Sure.” I said. Just ‘sure’. Did this mean he was coming around? I didn’t want to jinx it by saying too much.
After we bought our movie tickets, we had an hour or so to kill so we wandered over to Flight Centre.
Picture this. The clouds part, (okay, I know we were in a mall…so kill me for a little poetic licence!) the light shines down on a sign in the window of the travel agency, and the angels start the Hallelujah Chorus. Flight Centre is having their Boxing Week Sale. If we book our international tickets now, we will get $250 dollars back. So, I know that when you are talking almost $4000, $250 is not a huge reduction, but it was enough to get us through the door and get Nick’s bum in the chair in front of the travel agent. The long and the short of it is, we bought our tickets. Woohoo! It is official, we will be back in Cianciana in the summer of 2014. I can’t wait to see all our friends again. So, here is just a small sample of the people we are so excited to see again!
