A New Chapter

This is going to be a very short post because Nick and I just got home and I’m exhausted. We just came back from an appointment with the notaio (notary) in Agrigento. Why? you may ask. Well, today Nick and I signed the deeds on a farm–an olive orchard, actually–and a farmhouse. Yes, we are going to be farmers. Just on the outskirts of Cianciana and actually in the comune (municipality) of Alessandria della Rocca, we found 4 hectares with about 200 olive trees and 20 other fruit trees, plus a farmhouse with a kitchen including a table that seats 22. Outside there is a huge covered veranda, bbq, and two large picnic tables. The house needs some work–underpinning and some rather large cracks fixed, a bathtub, and woodstoves installed. Some of the rooms need painting and floor tiles put in. Outside we will need to install solar panels and water tanks. Once we have done these last two, the house will be operational and completely off-grid. We are going to grow our own vegetables using permaculture, but for now, we are going to sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet and watch the land.
